Sixliter Tune Up
#11
Dodge+Ford = always ready
thats all iv done on both my trucks lol. go on Google and type in "sixlitre tuneup" and you will find a bunch of write ups.
also sounds like you know what to use then, i used MSD cap coil and rotor on both trucks, normal 9mm wires and autolight plugs gaped at 55

It's a Canadian thing eh!
Don't know what gap you other 4.9'rs run, but I pushed it as far as 0.048" with 14 deg BTDC timing. I put those plugs in maybe 10 000 miles or so ago and I check them maybe 500 miles ago at work just to see how they held up. So far it does not seem they are burning up prematurely nor do I have any misfiring or lack of power since the ignition now has to pump more juice to jump that gap for the larger spark, but over time they do open up anyways.
I have been meaning to upgrade coils soon to compensate for that but its really just been a self test to see how it performs. Can't argue with my economy and throttle response.

On my 4.9 I went with Taylor low resistance spirial core wires, Autolites gapped at .050, and the timing at 12 deg BTDC. I tried 14 deg but it was too much (220k miles) and the rods were knocking. The stock numbers are .044 for the plugs and 10 deg BTDC for the timing. I felt a definate increase in power especially through the gears, accelerating when passing, and holding hills when towing. No real gain in MPG but no worse.
Cap and rotor were Napa with brass contacts and I kept the stock coil. Many of the after market coils have quality problems and suffer a high failure rate. If I was to go after market it would be Accel. Running a higher gap does mean pulling the plugs more often but on a 4.9 thats only thirty minutes.
YMMV

But a lot of people have been saying accel wires are the best for low resistance according to other forums

well I have an entire accel ignition system on my 400hp street legal race car for a reason i even managed to raid my uncles stock pile of there old yellow jacket header plugs they don't make them anymore but damn there the best spark plug i have ever used in my car.
