Trouble starting when Hot
Hello all, I am new to the forum and looking for advice/help. I recently bought a 93 F150 4X4 302 with 167000 mile and am having trouble starting when it is hot outside or sits in the direct sun, sounds odd but that seems to be when it happens. In the morning or when parked in shade it normally starts right up but when parked in direct sun it takes a few crankings and usually a couple taps of the gas. Once it is running it runs fine, good actually. After a long drive, if I turn it off and try to start it back up it has no problem, fires right up; let it sit for a while and it has trouble. Please Help.
Thanks

I'm not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination, but I would probably try swappin out the thermostat with a new to see if that helps at all... Seems like that could be a likely culprit... Cheap diagnostic test if nothing else...

Need to find out if there is spark during this no start condition. If there is spark then check for fuel at the rail, push on the schraeder valve for evidence of fuel.

Most of the time it has been after driving into town, 40-50 miles, and sitting in the parking lot for a while, but starts fine if it only sits for 15-20 minutes. The other day it was sitting in the driveway in direct sun on a fairly hot day and had trouble starting. Once it was started the amp gauge fluttered for a bit while I gave it some gas, once it is going it runs fine.

Newbie follow up, what is the easiest way to check for spark? I have done that many times on my motorcycle and mower but didn't know if there is an easier way than pulling a plug. I will check the schraeder valve as well.
