Been reading about this a lot lately and I want to do it soon when I replace my steering box - there are lots of 92-96 E series vans in my local yards but they are almost all 5.8's not 5.0's. For those in the know - is the 5.0 bracket the same as the 5.8 bracket? I'd like it to be as plug and play as possible.

From what I have gathered, I need the bracket, pump, pulley, and high pressure line from the van.

I did this swap a few years back. Im almost positive I had to have one from a 5.0 and with AC as the bracket holds that as well. All said and done this was the best upgrade for these trucks hands down especially if you are lifted with big tires.

Thanks for the info - any idea if the 5.8 bracket is the same as the 5.0? I know the 5.8 uses a slightly longer belt than the 5.0. The 5.0 van belt and the 5.0 truck belt are exactly the same, just hard to find a 5.0 van close to me.

I have read that the brackets should have 2 sets of holes to fit either block. Can't confirm that, but I read it somewhere.

Finally found a Van with 5.0 and A/C - getting the pump, bracket, pulley, and high pressure line delivered for $75. It's a good thing too because my current pump is about to give up the ghost - couldn't park the other day unless I rev'd up the engine every time I needed to turn into a spot.

Arrived today and everything looks to be in good shape. Gonna need to get a high pressure hose before I can play. Already pulled one of the A/C compressor bolts just to check and it threads right in.

High pressure hose showed up today. So did my new power steering box. I took a shot with a company called Detroit Axle - they sell the boxes on their website for $129 shipped, no core deposit required. When you remove your old box, you send it back to them with a prepaid shipping label that was sent with the new box. Once they receive it it activates the lifetime warranty. To my surprise I received a genuine Ford reman. If it all works out and the new gearbox performs well, its by far the best deal on genuine ford remans that I have seen.

Well I got into it today and immediately discovered that the pitman arm puller I rented isn't going to cut it. Back to the shop. I knew I should have just ordered a new one and been done with it.

I put a box on my '92 Chevy a couple years back. I decided for the whole $15 a pitman arm cost, it was worth just buying a new one and skipping the whole pulling ordeal.

A quick look at O'Reilly's shows a pitman arm for these Fords for $25. I know it's not a wearable part, for that little amount I'd put a new one on before re-using the old one, just because
