Default Roller rockers causing pcv to suck in oil - SOLUTION

If you want to, or need to install a set of aftermarket roller rockers there's a very high chance that they'll bang into the baffles in the valve covers. Taller covers won't fit under the stock 5.0/5.8 intake so you have to cut the baffles out of the valve covers. Cutting out those baffles will let the rockers throw oil directly on to the pcv valve. It'll suck a ton of oil and smoke. So I had to come up with an solution.

The first solution was a catch can. I bought the JLT catch can kit for the 99-04 mustang GT. Got it all hooked up and it was sucking so much oil that it was filling up the catch can real quick. I'm talking a lot. It filled up the 1.5 ounce reservoir before I hit 100 miles with it installed. THAT BLOWS.

So I decided to relocate the PCV.

I used a dremel to cut the end of the aftermarket metal pcv valve. Put it back in the valve cover on the rear passenger side. Then used a pcv elbow for a chrysler and a brass barbed fitting to mount the oem pcv in. Then from there to the catch can, then back to the intake. After driving for a day or two there's no oil at all in the catch can, just a few drops of condensation.

You can see here how I cut the bottom out of the aftermarket metal pcv valve. This is what goes back into the grommet in the valve cover.

In this pic you can see how I adapted it all together. The hose on the bottom is coming from the pcv in the valve cover. the brass piece I used is part # LFA-293 at home depot. The rubber elbow is Dorman part# 47028. The threaded end of the brass goes into the rubber elbow.

to the left of the pcv is where the line comes back from the catch can and goes into the intake.

I mounted the catch can to a bracket the I wasn't using anymore. The line on the far side is from the pcv, the other returns to the intake.

Good solution. They do sell a spacer that goes between the upper and lower intake so those taller valve covers fit.

Where are the spacers sold? I looked and found a few ads but they were no longer sold. All the rest of the results were for the round port mustang intake.

Look at part # BBK1520. This is for an Edlebrock intake but I think it has same square design as the truck intake. I researched this awhile ago but went another direction.

Nice work around but yeah I think I'd go with the spacer. A little longer intake run might add a little torque while solving the problem.

That spacer is for the Edelbrock intake, not the stock one.

I think it would work since the Edelbrock intake bolts to the same stock lower intake. The key phrase here is "I think" though..lol

No it;s different. Check out gasket B in the pic below. It's completely different than the one above.

And just so the info is here, here's the explanation of the gakets in the pic.

(left) Stock 5.0 EFI upper to lower gasket. (2nd from left) Stock 5.0 truck/Holley Systemax/Vortech/Saleen upper to lower gasket. (2nd from right) GT40/Cobra upper to lower gasket. (right) Stock 351W EFI truck upper to lower gasket.

Well, after farting around looking at stuff for a while I just happened to run across a spacer. It's for the Holley Systemax intake but the runners are the same.
