Default Reviving a 1996 f150 302

I bought a 1996 f150 automatic 4x4 offroad that sat outside for about 8-10 years for 500 dollars. When it was parked it ran, the customer never paid his bill for repairing the roof so we kept the truck. Later the brain died so it stayed outside.

I'd like to know if anybody else here has revived a truck like this and what you did to get it running

Assuming all is well, with components, check the oil assuming it still looks like oil, no water, or antifreeze apparent, attach a fresh battery. The gas today is so poor quality, I'd rather try to get one running on 10 year old gas, than 10 month old gas. Assuming it starts and idles, let it get up to temperature and get it somewhere to change the oil. A can of Techron or B-12 wouldn't be out of place in the fuel tank. My '87 was sitting at the side of a house for who knows how long, and we carried it a battery and drove it home.

I'm with eric...start with a strong battery and some known fuel source, perhaps a shot of ether. Check the basics are in place - oil (no water), coolant (just coolant) and the big parts still there.

bests

Make sure you can get an ownership before you spend too much on it.
I don't know if I'd agree with the old gas is better than new gas thing that Eric was saying - just because gas degrades pretty fast, unless it's had fuel stabilizer added and even then 10 years is a long time.
I've pulled in a few "barn finds" that sat for 5 years and the gas had turned to something ugly that smelled like shellac and the tanks were loaded with a scummy mess.
Personally I'd recommend dropping the tanks and seeing what's in there before pumping a load of crap up into the injectors. That gets ugly real fast.
