Question Rear end & tranny help

I don't want to say anything bad about Ford trucks - i really do like mine But the more time I spend with it trying to make it ran again, the more I'm getting puzzled. Obviously, Ford trucks are not to be repaired only by a hammer, as we're used to do here in Russia . I can't figure out what kind of tool do I need to remove the gearbox input bearing.

Another problem i have now is removing rear half-axles. I know that they're somehow locked in the differential. Do I understand it right that they're locked by lock rings in the center of gears assembly? How do I remove them? I don't want to disassemble the whole thing, because I'm afraid to cause a disbalance or something like that.

Any ideas/help is greately appriciated.
