Default R12 to R134 conversion kit 89 5.8

My old compressor clutch was bad, so I removed the compressor off of my engine. Well, it's now 95 degrees here in TN with tons of humidity, so I'd like my A/C back.

I'm going to have someone do the R12 to R134 conversion but wanted to learn a bit about it first.

I've heard of conversion kits for that, is there a big difference between Motorcraft branded parts, or just the kit for $13 at Advance? The guys that do it themselves, what types of parts do you use?
