Anybody know anything about instaling hood scoops on a 87-91 f150

Instaling them mostly. Can you buy premade scoops so that you just weld onto the hood or would you have to make your own and what would you do for tubing to run to the air filter box

some of the old fox bodys bolted on, you could cut a hole, drill a hole and bolt it down

If your buying aftermarket scoops, most of them that you'll find are plastic or fiberglass. You could rivet them in or use an industrial automotive glue. If your looking for cold air to the filter, I've considered a custom box around the filter with a large volume scoop and tubing running from the valance under my front bumper. If you looking to cool the engine bay, you could do a hood scoop, but all of the dirt that gets on your truck is now going to accumulate on your engine very quickly. I was reading the mustang forums and allot of the guys that installed functional scoops regretted it. Also, pop your hood and look at the frame of the hood. Not much room to put a scoop of any size and the placement would suck too. To do it right and maintain the rigidity of the hood, you'd have to do some reinforcing of the hood frame. Best bet would be an aftermarket hood with built in scoops if you want to go that route. Just my 2 cents.

I was originally doing it for just the look but somebody said on another site about routing to the air filter box i thoght itd help it run better or whatever but maybe if i do it itl be for the originaly idea just for the look

all of the scoops you buy are plastic or fiberglass....

you can Google search how to install them and probably watch vids on it...

I've done quite a few and to do it right it takes time. First you need to fit the scoop to the hood and then trace teh scoop on the hood. cut the hood hole a few inches smaller so you can rivet the scoop to the hood.

Then you surface prep the hood by removing the paint and primer down to bare metal about 4 or 5 inches around the hole and attach teh scoop. I did it by long rivets and flat fender washers on each side. then you mix fiberglass resin and then glass the scoop down. I mixed a small amount of resin and sat the scoop in the resin for a good bond.

Glass the area out so you get a good transition and contour. Finish off with a very light coat of bondo once the glass is sanded smooth... usually takes me 20 hours to get to a priming point before paint

Shaker had one and it fastened to the motor with opening in the hood to sit on it witha seal. Saw where one was put on and pictures of one, on one of the sites. A little search may turn it up. Shaker was the original do believe.

Did myself a google search and i was kinda prefering to do dual scoops instead of one big fat 1 but its hard to find them i see.
