Over the weekend changed out my pump. Went fairly smooth for the most part. Found a new leak coming from the power steering gear box. I guess I know what I'll be doing next weekend!

I had replaced my factory pump (the design is called c2) with a direct replacement about a year ago. Unfortunately it also came with a plastic serp pulley!

Well the pulley let go and I finally got fed up with the whine (from the new pump that came with a disclaimer about the whine) and replaced with a saginaw pump and bracket straight from the junk yard (1992 E150). Night and day difference! Pump is completely silent and I could steer my lifted 4x4 with oversized tires through the mud with one finger.

If you are considering this swap DO IT!

All the old fords that have the plastic powersteering pumps resivores I have had problem of them whining loud when I run power steering fluid.

I started running ATF in them (my 94 explorer, 88 F150, dad's 89 F250, his previous 86 F150, and will on the trucks that are down and trucks I get that have this style pump) and I don't have any whine at all.
Fords call for atf for the power steering so it’s actually the correct fluid, power steering fluid is thicker thats what causes the whine.😁 I learned that to lol

I have no idea if this is what you are suppose to do but I have ran it in multiple trucks and never had a problems with it that was caused by that (I do have a leak in my explorer but that is for a different reason).
