Default plastic clips/ fuel filter

my new filter came with two plastic clips, what are they for? My truck is missing the metal clips, but I don't see how these would hold the fuel line

I think those are just some cheap clips you can use to pop the old filter off, if you don't have a tool.

Usually you pop them off with a screwdriver and reinstall new ones with the new filter to secure it. Makes the filter change an easy 5 minute job. My 87 uses the plastic clips, never heard of metal ones for the filter, maybe the newer ones use metal and the plastic ones are not needed.

Earlier trucks had plastic insert clips you removed to disconnect the line.
Most of the 90's models have a click on piece that you need the special tool to remove. That version also has a stainless clip that locks it.
