help with my 88 xlt 5.0 it stalls
i have a 88 f150 5.0 4x4 that is having problems. when driving cel light comes on and i get a power surge, when at idle i get a surge and my truck stalls
what i have done already is
1 replaced the throttle position sensor
2 replaced the oxygen sensor ( when i took it off it was pitch black at the tip)
3 replaced the idle air control valve
4 removed and cleaned the throttle body (it was jet black ) replaced gasket
5 removed and cleaned the egr valve and replaced gasket
could my battery be a factor and could my catalytic converter be a factor

Anytime the Check Engine light comes on, the computer is trying to tell you that something isn't right in its world. Highly recommend to get the codes pulled - most are pretty self-explanatory - but we can help decipher once you post the codes.
There are some handy-dandy readers available - usually about $30 - $40, and I think there's a do-it-yourself procedure posted as a sticky note here on the site.
My experience with plugged cats is that the engine idles and runs at low loads normal, but strains more than typical with high RPMs or high loads - conditions that are really pushing the air through the engine.
Good luck, and keep us posted!
