Default Confused about dual tank issue ( one tank bleeding onto other )

I have a 1994 f150 5.0 with dual tanks. I'm having an issue with starting my truck ( starts just harder than normal ) and fuel bleeding from my rear tank to my front tank. Not sure what the problem is. I looked up on here and read about a DFR but at the same time I read about it may be a check valve. I am just trying to fix the problem with the hard start up as long as the tank bleeding won't cause any problems down the road. Also if possible I wouldn't mind capping off the rear and just running off the front tank. Both problems started about the same time all I have done is replace the fuel filter with that not helping I'm confused about what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The crossfilling problem is the check valve in the front fuel pump is bad the only way to fix it is to replace the pump.

Also there was a recall on this problem where Ford installed a inline check valve between the fuel line and pumps to help with this yours may or may not have them. Over time these also will stick open.

Just use the front and leave the rear empty...like stated above the only way the fix it right is to replace the $150 pump...and thats not as hard as you think.

Here's the best price I could find on my 1990, I replaced the front pump and it fixed the problem.

http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/GT00/SP34B1H.oap?year=1990&make=Ford&model=F-150&vi=1121915&ck=Search_fuel+sending+unit!s!assem bly_1121915_582&keyword=fuel+sending+unit!s!assemb ly

This was about the cheapest unit I could find unless with a decent warranty.

You might have to give your zip code to get a price. Mine was about $160, but it wasn't a kit where you have to assemble anything. You can get them cheaper but I had one day to change that and install 8 injectors so I just bought the unit.

1 year warranty with it. But make sure you have that front tank empty before you start. I did on this one but have had to change them on other vehicles that still had gas in them.

Here is another link that might be helpful.

Thanks for the input. Do you know if it will do any damage if left undone? my truck is acting better on start up after changing the filter so it doesn't bother me about the tank bleeding I can just use the front. Im just not wanting to run into problems down the road because of it.

Check on any parts that may have been recalled, if the recall has never been done to your truck Ford will do it for you because recalls don't expire, safety campaigns and bulletins do expire.
