ok i just went out and looked again to see where the fill and drain plug would be on the rear end, and the whole thing is wet with fluids, and dripping just a little bit, i originally didnt think twice about the fluids i knew were leaking from the rear end because i know the rear brake hose on the right side leaks a little bit. oh yeah i never the drain or fill plug.

also, i went ahead and looked for the fill and drain plugs on the tranny, i can only find the drain plug and its on the passenger side of the tranny and i know theres nothing under the hood for transmission, does anyone know where the fill plug is?

For me its on the driver side, its a big bolt. I think its 3/4" or 7/8". It also should say fill by it, it might be covered over with dirt and stuff. For the broken screws get a screw extractor kit, I got mine at Advanced auto, works great.

i have a screw exctractor kit the requires drilling a small hole in the screw/bolt thats broken off but i cant get to it with a drill because it goes on from the backside does this piece come off easily to work on it?

yay so i found the plugs for the rear end, but also like i said earlier im not a mechanic and im a complete idiot, because ive been looking at the bottom of the oil pan the whole time, it just took a little more searching and i found the right plugs for the tranny.

Yes, Dextron/Mercon III is automatic transmission fluid. But just because it's automatic transmission fluid doesn't mean it isn't right for your manual. It is the recommended fluid. There isn't anything in a manual transmission that you can change to convert it to motor oil. Automatics have clutches inside the case, manuals don't. There are just gears and bearings in there and are supposed to be lubed with Dextron/Mercon. A lot of people think they are smarter than the factory and say to use this oil or that oil and that it works so much better, but they are wrong. Many if not all manuals used to use gear oil, but now they use automatic transmission fluid. It's confusing for some people but not for the people that can read a service manual. Automatic transmission fluid can also be used in power steering pumps even though there is fluid called power steering fluid. Some vehicles call for automatic transmission fluid in the power steering and some call for power steering fluid. If there is motor oil in the transmission then changing it to the proper fluid will help. If there wasn't oil all over the rear end I would say that the noise is coming from the transmission but it's probably the rear end.

I would need a picture of the broken bolt to see what you are talking about to see if I could offer a suggestion.

yeah yeah and you can put break fluid in the clutch, i know all that, and hey guess what i can even read and i even have a copy of the haynes complete teardown and rebuild guide for this truck, i was simply asking if anyone else had any info on motor oil in the transmission, you dont have to be a complete dick.

Easy big fella... if you already know everything, you don't need help from an internet message board. Let's all keep our egos in check and try to get along.

I wasn't trying to be a dick and the people I was speaking of not being able to read are the ones trying to tell you to put motor oil in the transmission. I'm here to help and try to save people money, you included. I suppose it could have been misunderstood that I was busting your ***** but I wasn't. Just trying to break it down for you, you didn't seem to want to believe me. But that is fine, believe who you want and put what you want in the transmission. It's not my money.
