"New to Me" 89 F150 5.0L 4x4 Fix Thread
I bought an 89 F150 XLT Lariat 4x4 302 today. Drove her for 2.5 hours to get her home. She drove fine. I am excited to get her back to tip top shape.
Here are some of the issues I noticed and needs fixing immediately:
1. Oil pan gasket is leaking and needs to be replaced.
2. Dual Function Reservoir is leaking fuel. DONE
3. The fuel gauge is not reading anything on the rear tank, but tank is full.
4. Brakes are a bit spongy and needs to be bled. DONE
5. Steering is a bit loose.
6. Rear Anti Lock light is on. Don't know why.
7. Flush and replace all fluids and lube.
8. Replace wiper motor.
Here are my future plans:
1. 4-inch suspension lift.
2. I need new wheels for the BFG 33x12.5 AT. They are sitting on 15x8 and needs 15x10 with 4 Backspacing to get rid of rubbing.
3. Replace most of the interior (carpet, seat cover, and headliner)
4. Fix crack in the windshield.
5. Add fog lights.
6. Add tool box.
It is not going to be easy and even painful, but in the end I think I will have myself one badass truck.
I'll upload some photos tomorrow. It's too dark and cold outside right now.

Brakes Fixed
Here she is fellas:

After a closer inspection, I saw that there was a brake fluid leak on the rear passenger wheel. I took it apart and saw that the wheel cylinder was shot. Pick up a new one from a local parts store and did some research on how to take a part the drum brake. Never done this before, but YouTube a huge help. After half a bottle of liquid wrench, two bottles of brake cleaner, one broken bolt and a stripped fitting I manage to get it all back to together. Bled the brakes and after a quick test drive, it is all fixed. The brakes feels solid. What a great time to spend on my day off. I can now cross that off my list. The Rear Anti Lock light is still on, though. I'll look for the RABS valve tomorrow, not sure if she even has one, I'll bleed it and see what happens.
The wheel cylinder is the shiny new part on the drum brake assembly:http://www.flickr.com/photos/sst_photography/11359703395/

Leaky DFR Fixed
I worked on the leaky DFR yesterday. Picked up a replacement ($20) from a local junkyard. While installing it, I noticed the rear fuel line was still flowing hard even after turning off the truck. I suspect the pump was still on. Got it all buttoned up and took her for a test drive. When I got back, the DFR was leaking again. Now I am thinking that the both fuel pumps were running, which over pressurized the DFR and blew the O-ring. I did some research. I found a thread about ECC relay going bad and its effects. So, I replaced both EEC and FP relays. I tried to start it, nothing. I some more research and contemplated swapping out the external fuel pump. I tapped it with a screwdriver, pulled the FP relay, inspected it, plugged it back in, got back on the truck, crossed fingers, and she started right on up. I have taken her out on a longer test drive and no more leaks.

You can see where the DFR is leaking:

This is the corroded EEC relay:

From my research the engine needs to be lifted to clear a cross member. There are threads out there regarding our issue, but I have not seen a complete write up on it.
Good luck.
