Default New Fuel Pump Humming

I have a 1989 F-150. I recently was having problems; low idle, stalling right after I started it, and eventually just not starting at all. The engine was cranking but not actually starting. I checked a lot of different things before I brought it into a shop.

The mechanic at the shop told me my fuel pump was shot and he installed a new one. When I went to pick it up I noticed a really loud humming/whining coming from the truck underneath the driver side door. The mechanic told me that was the sound of the new fuel pump and that is would eventually subside. The sound is very loud and never made a noise like that for the two years I've had the truck. Is this normal? What the guy told me sounded like bs but I really don't know enough about mechanics to say. Thanks

Aftermarket pumps are loud. OEM pumps are not but a lot more expensive. So I personally won't worry too much about it.

Yeah, the aftermarket pumps can be pretty loud. It'll get louder when the tank is almost empty and be quietest when the tank is full. After a few months it should quiet down a little but you'll still hear it humming under there.

I'm running these in both my front and rear tanks. I have been running these for about 2 yrs without any issues. You can't hear these run.

I doubt it's going to "subside". He probably should have used a better quality pump. Whether or not to insist on a replacement depends on how loud "really loud" is.

I can tell you most people have bad luck with aftermarket fuel pumps, if I were you I would take it back and tell him to put in a motorcraft one.

Especially if an Airtex pump was used... Those things are garbage. Bosch pumps are better quality as is Walbro (Ford's OE Manufacturer).
