Default My new exhaust is too quiet. Flowmaster 40 in a 302.

My stock exhaust had completely rusted through in several places and since I just moved to NC I have to get the truck inspected so I decided to get a custom exhaust made. I think the piping is all 2.5" mandrel bent with a flowmaster 40 series. Headers are stock, cats are still in place and i did away with the fake duals and just had them do one pipe all the way back.

So this is my first aftermarket exhaust on a V8 and I was super excited to go and pick it up today.....until I cranked it for the first time and heard how quiet it was. Inside of the cab I literally can't hear the exhaust at all, I only hear the engine.

So now what are my options? High flow cat? Gut my cats?

I'm not looking for ear splitting sound, I just wanted a nice rumble at idle and while accelerating. I am very, very disappointed.

I expect most of you to say gut or delete the cats, but then will that be TOO loud?

LT's then into a flowmaster 10 then just run it back. But if just kept your setup you have now and just gutted the cats, its not ganna be as loud as you think, prolly will be right in the decibel range you wanted.

I'll try this. I did get out while the truck was idleing and put my ear down to the exhaust tip and it was quiet as a mouse.

I'm thinking I'll try this. If gutting the cats sounds like crap I can always install a high flow cat I guess.

I'm just disappointed because I was expecting to crank it up and hear this badass flowmaster rumble. I only paid $425 for the entire setup with the mandrel bends thankfully so at least my piping is a keeper!

Most cat back systems arent as loud as ppl think in my opinion. My 302 is straight piped, so all cat back systems are quiet as hell to me lol. But to be 100% honest its not ganna get all that loud with stock cats. I went straight piped cuz its cheaper than the other systems lol
