Is this gonna work/Gas mileage/Ign. upgrade and timing bump
OK, I just read sewiv's http://fullsizebronco.com/forum/show...ht=timing+bump ignition upgrade and timing bump post and it seems to me that it would work just fine on my truck too. His is the 5 liter and mine's a 300 straight six but basically it's just adding a hot coil, increasing the plug gap some (ten thousandths maybe?) and advancing the timing until it pings slightly so what does it matter. Now the ignition stuff on my truck isn't MSD or Taylor, it's just stock but it's all brand new so I'd think it would work just fine, yes? (Maybe I'll get the better stuff later.) Now about the coil. My truck is a 1989 F150 w/300 straight six and has a regular old coil but I've got an old Accel Super Coil (45,000 volt) sitting on a shelf just waiting to go on something so... do you think that will work OK or should I get something else? Suggestions? (I know I'll have to rig up 12 volts for the Accel coil but that shouldn't be too hard.) So anyway, what do you guys think? Is this gonna work?
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance

Alrighty...all you'll have to do is cut the wires off your existing plug for your stock coil and put some round connectors on so you can attach it. Just make sure your always hot 12v goes to the + side.
Your stuff should work...really you can use whatever you want, BUT if you use good parts such as brass cap and rotor good plugs and wires...you will have MUCH better results and longer life. With a higher output coil its much harder on your ign system than the stock. I've got a 60k coil on my truck and wow when I look at the cap I want to put it back on and pretend I never looked at it. Its quite a bit harder on parts.

But don't go cheap on wires. It will look for any port in the storm for a ground path. If that ends up being you... you may not cry, but your eyes will water & you'll skip coffee the rest of the day.
I went w/ MSD 8.5 superconductors, but Ford Racing 9's or Taylor thunderbolt's are good too. (any of these will make up their higher price in longevity)
& of course, brass cap & rotor. Stock stuff will be pooched in no time.

Thanks to farmer12, shroomie and ymeski56. Great advice from you all. Yeah, I was just thinking about using that old coil of mine because they aren't cheap but then, old is old so... And I hear you on the wires and stuff. Better to spend the money. Now about skipping coffee the rest of the day. ha, ha, ha... you said it. Happy St. Paddies Day
