Low idle while stopped

Hey guys. Got a small issue here. I've got an 88 300 I6 with the 3spd auto c6. Anyhow the truck idles fine in park and nuetral but when I put the truck in a moving gear ie. Drive, reverse, 2nd, or 1st it idles a bit low, rarely stalls, but it gets super close to cutting off most of the time. The previous owner did get the transmission rebuilt but I'm not sure wether the torque converter was replaced or who did the rebuild. So just wondering if it'd be appropriate to bump up the timing a little or maybe something else? Thanks in advance for the replies guys. Oh and I did replace the wires and plugs when I got the truck, however that was two years ago, but the truck didn't take on many miles at all.

Start w/ cleaning then testing IAC valve.

Alrighty. I started up the truck and when it was warm I unplugged it and the truck stalled. I'd still like to clean it juust to make sure. Any special way to clean the IAC or just spray it with some carb cleaner?

I would think you would want to use throttle body cleaner over carb cleaner but I don't know

That means it's working...clean it and the TPS

Ok. Throttle body cleaner for the IAC and what should I use to clean the tps?

techrep 10-19-2011 08:11 AM

I used Carb cleaner for all.

Yeah, its really all the same. Acetone, 901, carb cleaner, brake cleaner, fingernail polish remover, etc. Some are just compressed and possibly more harsh. But ill use carb cleaner. Thanks.

Yo guys, just saw a youtube video of a guy "cleaning" the TPS and the IAC, but the only thing he did was spray some carb cleaner on the disconnect terminals of the IAC and the TPS. I could have sworn you guys were referring to taking both the items off and cleaning the actual function of the parts and not just the connections. If you guys could clarify this, that would be much appreciated. Thanks
