Position the #1 cylinder at top dead center and ensure the rotor is pointed towards the #1 terminal on the distributor cap before removing the distributor.

So i got the new dizzy in, but now the truck is running funny. A while back i did the six-liter tune, so I've had the timing set at 16deg for the past 8 months, so when i put this one is i obviously set it to 16deg, but now it will drive fine for about 5-8 miles, and then the whole truck will start shuddering and pinging. so I dropped the timing down to 14deg, and that stopped the pinging, but it still starts shuddering after a few miles. also, when i changed the dizzy, the points got mixed up, so I ended up having it in 180deg wrong, so the timing light was showing the timing, but obviously it was not starting, and it started right up after that was corrected, but could that have damaged the dizzy. Sorry for the long post, maybe this should be a separate thread. oh, and one more thing, when the new dizzy was set at 16deg, it trew the PO300 random misfire detected code. Thanks!

Anyone? Anyone? i guess ill drop the timing down to 12deg and see what happens... so unless the dizzys bad, then i must have done something to it when i swapped it out.
