Looking for more HP/Power
 

I have a 92 F150, all original with the 302/automatic. Are there any simple and inexpensive things I can do to increase the HP and torque? I do all the usual maintenance regularly and the truck is in great shape and runs fine. Just looking for that something extra. Also, has anyone ever used Seafoam with a vacuum hose and sucked it into the intake? I have been told to do it and not to. Any opinions?

I've seen videos on the seafoam/intake thing. It'll remove some carbon deposits and smoke up your neighborhood real good. Better thing to do (and safer) would be to add some to the fuel tanks and the oil. Techron is also an excellent fuel system cleaner.

Least expensive thing you can do to gain a little power would be to change out the stock airbox for a K&N RF-1012 filter ($70). There is a little bit of fab work to get it to sit properly, or you can pay more for a kit that is pre-fab ($200 more). I noticed a nice throttle response increase, and it definitely gives it a throatier sound at higher rpm's, even with stock exhaust.

A basic tune-up with new plugs, wires, distributor cap & rotor, and ignition coil can do wonders as well. Replacing all of the brittle plastic vacuum lines with rubber or poly can eliminate leaks that leak power.

Other things to consider would be gearing and exhaust but those get expensive quickly.

Just remember it's a truck, not a mustang - at least that's what I keep telling myself anyways :).

Heads off of a 96 Explorer I believe are the gt40 heads, matched with the intake should give it a little bump. A cam would also help.
