Welp here it is. I ordered this lock from Amazon for about $8.50. This weekend I saw it at Track Auto for $12.95. So far so good. The spare is still on the truck!

Hey, hope you guys don't mind if I jump in on this one a little late. I'm moving my daughter this weekend and so just hung my spare on the sling. It's always been in the bed but I needed the room. Anyway, I was thinking about what I should do to secure it and after reading this post I still don't know. Here's what I see. Even if I put a padlock on the eye bolt, couldn't you still just unscrew it completely, drop the sling down and steal the tire!?! So, maybe a guy could hang a chain off the frame or maybe just loop it around the sling (weld it in place I guess) and padlock it to the sling's eye bolt. Don't have a pic but I hope you will know what I mean. Of course, no matter what you do, if they want it bad enough... What do you guys think. Any better ideas?

If it was just laying in the bed, why are you worried about it now?

Oh, you know how it is. It was too easy to take it when it was just lying in the bed but now that I've hung it nice on the sling...

My thought process was if a thug saw a lock on it, he would just move on. Most people that would steal a tire are looking for cash for their next fix. I would suspect they have never owned a car or truck, and wouldn't think to just spin the bolt.

Yeah, I thought of that too. I'm probably just being paranoid from reading all these posts about it. Nobody's gonna steal it. It's almost bald.
