Why is the horsepower so low on this engine?

the last year the mustang had a 302, it was at 215hp. the high point was the '93 Cobra at 235hp. the intake manifold sucked and it was the end of the pushrod era, the next body style was to get the overhead cam motors. BTW, comparable trucks had similar HP ratings. it was the pinnacle of tech at the time.

I just don't get how today's v6s push more horsepower and torque than v8s of the not so far past

I guess, that's how I've seen the new ford ecoboosts v6s wax Chevys that are only a couple years behind and with v8s lol

well, it sure isnt magic, pixie dust, or magic. advances happen via technology. power and efficiency only travel as far as R&D capability allow.
