I had an 80 F100 4x2 w\ mild 429, c6, 2:73 gears, there wasnt any mustang that could beat my truck including my sisters new pontiac firebird. So if you want to beat a mustang you will need the proper artillery, a Ford big block.

how i would love a 429, or any ford big block, for that matter. but i think he can make the 5.0 work if he wants too

I have a stout 429 just waiting to go into something. I would like to do an 81 or so ranger.

I made it fit into an 83 mustang so I can make it fit into a ranger. you see 460 mustangs but not 460 rangers.

You can do the junk yard route gettin the maf harness an whatnot but finding one thats not chopped up and complete is harder than you'd think. Personally if I was going to do it again, I'd get the dunne-rite.com maf kit. It doesnt come with as many performance parts as the mass air.com kit does (thats the one I used). Its quite a bit more involved too, if you dont know wiring dont buy it. The dunnerite kit is just a plug and go deal. You put the adapter in between the computer and your old harness and thats it. Theres goods and bads to both. I'm sure happy with mine from massair.com tho, the tech support is awesome, theres nothin those guys dont know.

I dunno what motor your gonna do but if you want 500 horse dont use a 302, the block wont take it. I've seen numerous blocks split up the mains. I think the best you can do with a 302 is 425 safely.
