I talked to a guy yesterday who is putting in L.E.D headlight bulbs in his truck and I was wondering if anyones ever heard of this, he says its plug and play and that there suppose to be crazy bright?
Aside from the new factory LED headlights, the only ones that I've seen are made for Jeeps and vehicles with the round glass headlights and they consist of 6 or more LEDS. An LED assembly that fit's into our headlight housings would have to run a high power LED, at least 50w or more than likely a 100w LED and they would have to have a hell of a heat sink and cooling fan to get any kind of life out of them. A 100w LED has to have cooling.
Well, a quick google search turned these up. About $80 a pair. I just don't know what kind of life to expect from them. 50w LED still gets hot and these have a passive cooling heat sink. If the heat sink shown is plastic, they're a joke!

I think they'll have allot in common with the HID's. Our headlight housings are designed for halogen bulbs and cannot focus aftermarket lighting products. Technically, these are illegal like the HID's. Aside from that, the statement from the description of the bulbs posted above says "focused beam pattern for brighter details". That's bogus to put it politely. They can't make claims for a product not knowing what housing they'll be used in. They also don't have much for heat sinks, but it claims to have built in fans. I think, IMHO, if one could find a set of led/housing combos, they would be a much better buy. I also don't see anything about High Beam/Low Beam. Another case of another blinding light product that endangers other drivers at night. No high lows, no pass inspection, DANGEROUS!
I'm a big fan of LED's by the way. So I'm not totally being a dick. I just happen to drive an emergency vehicle at the wee hours of the morning and all these aftermarket lighting products coming at you around corners and in rain and fog and other drivers being half asleep (me) can hit you head on or run off the road while being blinded.
Find a set with high beam and low beam leds and a housing made for those led's and go for it.
that is somewhat along the right thought, audi spent millions designing led headlights. I don't think a cheap $100 bulb in a normal halogen housing will do anything to light up the road.
well I have been wanting to do projectors but there so expensive I thought maybe these would be a cheap solution but I guess ill wait and see what the says when he gets them lol
