Default Anti lock?brake lights on!!!

Hi,
About a month ago I rebuilt my rear brakes totally, turned the drums, new shoes new wheel cylinders and all new hardware and springs. No problems everything great until today, driving down interstate both lights come on. When I turn the truck off and then restart lights go off but 10 minites later they come back on! Is there a way to get the code on this to find the problem-Autozone? As far as I can tell the brakes are good and there is fluid in master cylinder. Thanks!

autozone may not be able to check it, depending on what year your truck is. I think Ford started using OBDII in 95 or 96. I dont think autozone has the code reader for pre-OBDII. But there's places you can buy them pretty cheap though. I got one on ebay for like 15 bucks.

Hi Gentlemen,
I started looking all over the net and saw where one guy said a burnt out brake light bulb can make the ABS and BRAKE light come on. I went and pulled my rear brake light clusters and found a burnt out bulb. Switched the backing light bulb out for the brake light bulb and went to NAPA and back (10 miles) and the warning lights have not come back on? Is this a fix? I don't know???

One of the reasons for the abs to light is burned out bulbs, yes.
If you found a burned out bulb, that should be all you need to replace.

Hi,
I drove for about 2 hrs. today with no abs/brake light coming on feeling good that I had fixed the problem and then the lights come back on again! I have heard that there is an ABS sensor atop the rear differential.
could this be it or does anyone have anymore ideas? Thanks!

Hi,
Well to keep this going. I replaced the VSS on top of the differential. I tested the old one with a VOM meter for continuity,it tested good,if that is a test? I don't know. Will drive tomorrow and see if the rear antilock/brake light stays off. If not I'm still looking! Thanks!

Hi,
Well my warning lights are still coming on after replacing the VSS on top of the differental. I'm going to try to see if I can run the codes from the ABS module? Has anyone ever done this??? Thanks!

most auto parts stores do have a obd1 code reader, you just have to look at the reader it self, and ford went to obd2 in 96, as for your brakes check to make sure that every thing is assembled correctly and nothing came loose
