Interior Rebuild Thread (w pics)
Hey everyone,
It has been a while since I bought the truck... but after I did all the basic stuff that needed to be done (full tuneup w. distributer, brakes, power steering pump) I moved on to redoing the interior. It was really beat up: electicians tape on the steering wheel and shifter, missing interior panels, broken speedometer. The only speakers were two tweeters hanging from the front of the headliner! It was a mess. So I put some work in and redid it in the least expensive kind of custom way I could... Enjoy!

Thanks guys!
Yeah... it really came together from some pretty random and inexpensive places. I found the shift **** online -- a guy makes them for VWs. It turns out our ***** use the largest diameter possible for shifters, and that if you just pop the threaded part out of most *****, the resulting hole is a perfect fit. It was short though, so I completely lucked out by having 1" stainless tape that fit PERFECTLY underneath the ****. I never had much use for that tape until this moment!
The wood is in fact contact paper that cost me about 10 bucks. Took a while to trim it... but what the heck!
The new shift boot is actually a spectre boot with stainless trim that I epoxied to the old boot... what you see there is actually two boots glued together (since the spectre boot was WAY too short. Did the shifter bushings while I was in there too...

A few more...
While I was working on the interior, I also redid the lights blue.
Here is the cluster:
The dome and Map lights:
And the light shining down from the map light (not the dome... that is subtle!):
The lights for the cluster were from O'Reilly's -- but they are actually dimmer than stock. If I had to do it again, I'd just get good Sylvania replacements. The other lights are all just blue versions of stock from Ebay...
