Default installing a gauge cluster with tach on a truck that didnt have tach

i have a 1992 f150 and i use the truck for pulling and i would like to have a tach in it. i have thought about putting a aftermarket one on but dont know where to put it. So i was wandering if i could take a gauge cluster out of a truck that has a tach and put it in mine. the only thing that i am worried about is the wiring not matching,

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the wiring is the same for them all. Stick shift comes with tach, auto does not. But you can go to a junkyard and pull one and install it, and it should match up just fine (including for your tach)

Hey I did the same on my 1990 and each section of the cluster came out on it's own. For example the fuel gage, the voltage, oil pressure I believe all have their own section of dashboard and are interchangeable. I had to use the new back dash piece because it had the right holes for the tach though, but the old clear plastic fit over the new dash. Yours is a 92 so I'm not sure it will be the same, but my speedometer was a direct swap so I have my same mileage. I'll put pictures of my swap later if anyone wants them. Again I'm not sure if it would be the same for you.

Yes, everything should be fine. They come from the factory to run with/without a tach. Just pull the cluster out of another truck and it will plug right in.

Uhh u have to make sure it's interchangeable with your truck if yours is a 92 u have to get one from 91-93 trust me it won't work otherwise I tried this with a 92-93 tach cluster in my 95... The tach works but the turn signals won't and the alternator wouldn't charge... A 91-93 interchange 94-95 do and 96 is lonely
But this will work the plugs in the back are the exact same. I actually have a 92 cluster with a tach because it wouldn't work in mine... Go figure

All trucks are wired for a Tachometer.

Tachometer was optional on all transmissions.

Not all years are interchangable

A '92 requires a cluster from a '92 or '93. Others will not work without wiring modifications.
