1995 4.9 6cyl cat removal
Hello, I need help, I am considering having the cats removed from my 1995 F 150 4.9 6 cyl. truck and just running a regular muffler. will this help MPG , will it screw up any pre sets, throw any codes?
I am new to this site and restoring my wife grandfathers farm truck .I have never tried to do this kind of stuff before.
any and suggestions would be appreciated.

Not sure about the '95 year, my '89 had only one O2 sensor before the cat. Point being may get into codes thrown if there is a before and after cat O2 sensor combo.
Unless the cat is plugged, any MPG gain will be minimal and likely unnoticeable. Suggestion here is that if things are running well, leave it alone.

I have a '96 with a 4.9 and planning to remove my cats soon. I want to say there are 3 o2 sensors. One in each manifold and one between the cats. I plan on buying a Walker 45166 exhaust pipe. It will replace my pipes from the manifolds to just past the cats (I guess) and then tie into the muffler. It has a bung hole welded in the pipe for an o2 sensor. I don't know what this will do to my codes, but I've deleted enough stuff that I trip all kinds of codes. Frankly, that doesn't bother me. But I wouldn't feel it's going to do too much to improve MPG. Your driving habits and wether or not you use a/c will do more for gas mileage.

You won't really have any noticeable gains from removing the cats. And the front cat doubles as the Y where the two manifolds come together, making it pretty much impossible to delete without fabrication. So unless it is clogged, Id say you are better off leaving it alone, especially if you live in a state that requires an inspection.

If you've ever driven a car much that didn't have cats you know that the exhaust smell will be much stronger and a clogged cat is a rare cat indeed. There is no advantage at all to removing the cats.

Instead of considering hacking your truck, consider following the maintenance schedule using only top-quality parts & fluids, according to published procedures. It'll run better, with fewer problems, at a lower cost per mile.

I can second this. My '92 doesn't have cats and it smells awful. My wife complains and my son tells me I smell like truck if I start it in the garage. Truck will be getting a universal Magnaflow cat this summer.
