Default Ignition knock sensor in an engine swap

I am swapping out engines in my 1992 302 Ford. My old engine has an ignition knock sensor, new one does not, but old wiring (which I am reusing) has a connector for it. Do any of you know what my options are here?

In reviewing the rest of the threads, it looks like there are two schools of thought.

1. Run without it and all should be fine.

2. Tap in a new on in the block as if you run without it all will not be fine.

So, the question then is - who is right?

I have noticed on some older engines that it seems to be a thread for the knock sensor on the passenger's side head. I think that's where I remember seeing it. If it was me, I'd have the block threaded if there's nowhere that it can be mounted.

Thanks, I'll take another look. I was also wondering if I could mount it on the intake manifold after reading that is where some of the others are mounted. I do have an unused hole in the intake manifold in the coolant passageway, it I were to find a thread adapter and mount it here, would the fact that it were in contact with coolant be an issue?

Well, problem solved I think and will post the solution for those with a similar question. I had looked at other thread areas on the engine but hadn't identified this one. On this block, there is an unused thread in the rear of the block on the drivers side that is not on my old engine. The knock sensor fits perfectly (after some cleaning) and stays clear of the headers. Will just need to adjust the wiring harness for the new location.

I ran without mine...it doesn't affect anything, no check engine light.

If it detects knock it will retard timing 3 to 4 degrees...that is all it does.
