Would you rebuild the motor? Its the basic package the 94 F150s came with. Straight six with auto transmission.

Or, if you could replace the motor, What motor would it be?

For example, is there an awesome fuel efficient motor I can buy and put into the truck?

Im thinking of another new motor. Not sure how to proceed with this?

Any tips, advice would be much appreciated!
Read the question, folks. He's not asking what your dream machine would be, he's asking if there is a more FUEL EFFICIENT alternative to his worn out 4.9l auto set up or if it would be better to rebuild what he has. He didn't ask about going fast or smoking rice burners.
If it were me I'd shop around for a quality long block 4.9l engine with a good warranty and then tune it for peak efficiency. Many folks are getting nearly 20mpg out of that engine, and you already have proof that they run over a quarter million miles.

Actually you should read the title. The only motor I would put in my obs would be a 6.4 powerstroke.

I've always thot of it as more power=less pedal eff= less fuel. I know theres a little more to it than that, but thats how i looked at it. How engines of today can have more power and fuel efficiency than previous engines.

Better fuel management, lighter engines and better design, variable valve timing with OHC or DOHC plus most of the accessories today are electronic assist and don't drag down the engine. Thats how you can get 250 stock HP out of a little 3.5L for example.
