Exclamation Rear main seal

anyone else have problems with the rear main seal in any ford? mine seems to be leaking, it has happened on a few of the fords we have owned. i was wondering if any of you have had this problem. thanks.

mine is leaking as well, 94 5L.

mine leaked as well. should do with over 200k on a 5.0 with lack of maintenance (previous owner) i fixed it though..that was..oddly enough, easier than doing the oil pan gasket

not a pre 97... but my 2000 5.4 4x4 leaks... gonna replace it next weekend...

90custom, what was involved in fixing yours? I have heard varying opinions on how much deconstruction is needed, did you need a special tool to install the seal?

just used a rubber mallot to tap it in. just made sure i kept going around to tap it in evenly. pulled the trans and transfer case as an assembly. no major problems. just now my shift indicator is slightly off. easy fix.

well see, i had a 86 ford f 350 flatbed heavyduty it leaked as well. so its not just my truck then? lol

did you do the oil pan gasket at the same time? how hard was the tranny to take out? I imagine you used a tranny jack?

on the 1 ton yes, havent gotten the chance to do that with the half ton yet lol. and i did the oil pan gasket first, then the rear main seal started to go. But i would reccomend replacing both if you have the cash.
