i6 Exhaust Q's
Ok forum, I finally got enough dough in order to get a new exhaust system. I have a 300 i6 with all stock exhaust. I'd like to get a nice aggressive sound to it without breaking the bank (I do know that it wont sound like an 8 but hell i'll give it a try). I was considering getting either a flowmaster 40 or a flowmaster 44 and dumping it out on the passenger side in FRONT of the rear tire. Does anyone have any experience with these mufflers? Also, I have to pass emissions "sigh" and I'm wondering if I could pass it if I "misplace" my second cat. and finally, what diameter exhaust should I go with in order to get a good sound to it?

My 95 I6 also has a 40 series on it. +1 to what welder said. Also, to pass emissions remember you're going to have to get rid of CEL as well as any codes that will be stored in the cars CPU. I recommend going with both cats that meet your states requirements, its not worth throwing a ton of money down the drain for nothing. I live in ohio in a small town where we dont do emissions checks so ive been able to run my mustang without cats and my old dodge ram. It will make it deeper, louder and more aggressive sounding, but IMO its not worth it. Just stick with a good muffler and piping. As far as piping size im not sure cause i had a friend of mine who owns an exhaust shop bend mine for me, so i have no clue whatsoever to what size they used, but going to a wider size wont make to much of a difference in sound. Id stick with factory or go a half inch up max.

dont waste money on a muffler you dont need one on a 300-6 and it isnt loud without one unless you remove both the cats... if you lose the rear cat and leave the front one its fine without a muffler....

Thanks guys. Yeah i talked to my local shop and I'm holding on to my cats (for now i'll make up my mind later) and I'm going 2.5inch pipe and flowmaster 40. Thanks for the advice. After i get this installed. How could I remove the cats and fix the CEL code. I'm probably gunna do this for the sake of sound. I wont be worried about emissions cause i've already passed them :P

Oops that was an accidental copy/paste, (my keyboard is screwed) I'm just wondering if I can pull them out without any issues and if there are issues, what can i do to fix them?

Sorry, i must have been mis informed. Does removing the cats on these models of trucks not throw a code? I figured they do. But if not could you tell me why. Im not saying this antagonistically but im curious just why not. Do they not have o2 sensors or anything like that. Thanks.

The o2 sensor is ahead of the cats the only way it can tell the cat is gone is if you cut the pipe off close enough to expose the o2 sensor to air, which will cause humorous backfiring, under deceleration.
