I need help!

Was driving yesterday and hit a large bump that came out of no where and hit it way too fast. My truck just shut off and now it won't start. It turns over strong but won't fire up.. Battery is brand new and tests fine, cables/terminals are new, ignition coil is also brand new. All fuses and relays are also fine. Any suggestions? Is it the computer? Is it something simple? I hope so.. my dash is showing check engine and the little battery symbol

It's a 1994 XLT with the 4.9L straight 6 and the 4 spd manual with the 5th (overdrive) gear so I guess technically a 5spd

check all your wiring, the simplest problem would be that the bump knocked a wire loose. check all the wires to your coil first, check that the distributor cap is seated properly.... and just look for anything dangling in the engine compartment.

Check your inertia switch. Shuts off the fuel in an accident but can be tripped by a hard knock. There is a reset button on the switch.
Not sure where it is in your truck but in my '86 its located under the dash passenger side near the heater duct.

+2 you may have to pull back the carpet on the tunnel under the dash on the pasenger side ford hid it pretty well if you can find an owners book it will tell you where and how to reset it:thumbsup: bubabud

yep yall have it covered. i was going to say start with the basics, fuel, air, spark. check for pressure at the rail, if none check the inertia switch, fuel pump fuses and relays. pull a plug and ground it and check for spark. make sure the air filter isnt clogged, which is very unlikely as being it was running then died. all very easy tests to start the diagnosis.

basically figure out what the engine isnt getting that is wont start. which i named the 3 necessary things needed to run

Its definitely gotta be the inertia switch, I see it all the time. If the red button will not stay down you can by pass it with a paper clip, to see if it will run.

inertia switch or grounded out wire somewhere that was knocked loose by the bump
