I killed my truck today

I knew it was going to happen, just not like it did. I knew as soon as I fixed the rear end and the transmission that the engine was going to go. After all, it has been knocking for a year. But it didn't throw the rod, instead it blew the head gasket and possibly cracked the head. Last time the head gasket went the head also cracked. I guess I didn't replace those freeze plugs quick enough.

I'm not sure what I should do. The truck isn't worth fixing but that's never stopped me before. I don't have the money to get another truck so I guess I'll eventually start taking it apart to see what I melted. I drove it until it quit running, I was tired of stopping and adding water. It'll be down for a while. I'll let you know how it goes.

fix it

whats left to go wrong after you do?

if the trannys fresh itd be a dumb move not to fix it. is it the 300 i saw in your profile or a different truck?

Buy a crate engine and throw that already half dead engine in the garage for parts etc.

Yea, I've got the 4.9. No money for a crate engine. I was hoping to just change the bearings but now it will need more. The tranny isn't exactly fresh, but it did come from a '96.

haha theres a few years in your favor then ;)

how many miles on the motor itself?

Just call me Sean 10-06-2009 01:26 AM

Well, it only goes to 99,999. ha ha
Mileage unknown, went for months without a speedometer until I found the '88-'91 tailshaft housing. Probably close to 175,000 or so.

i say go ahead and find a used head.

i love that motor.

ouch, that sucks...4.9's are pretty easy and cheap to come by, at least around here though

I can get one cheap at the you-pull-it but the condition will be unknown until I get it in and try to start it. More expensive from the other junkyards for a known good engine. I've done the head once, this time should be faster. But then I still have to do the bearings. I guess I'll have to do it, I can't waste all that money I spent on freeze plugs. lol

Fix it.. I know from your previous post that ive used to fix many problems on my truck that you have to much work in the truck to just let it die...
