I'm new at this so I'll apologize in advance if this is a stupid question. Can the truck have an error code even if the check engine light isn't on?

I believe the light means the ECU is unable to maintain it's 14.68:1 air to fuel ratio

In the manual that comes w/ your Code reader http://www.handsontools.com/Equus-In...ol_p_5574.html Or Google OBD 1 codes (but they usually don't differentiate for trucks. Some codes mean different things for trucks than cars. The manual does denote them)

also for anyone that wants to know. advanced auto parts and auto zone have the connector plug to make the obd1 plug into a obd2 scanner(the scanner has to have the software though) its only 10 bucks at auto zone and works great for reading codes or read the sensors with the engine running.

Hey guys! I'm not trying to hijack the thread, but I'm stuck.

read the codes on my 1994 f150 .............

112 "ACT sensor circuit grounded"
172 "HEGO sensor circuit indictes lean"
332 "insufficient EGR flow"
452 "Insufficient input from VSS"

I have no idea what all this means. I do have a manual and about to crack it open, and at least find the locations of these parts. I guess my question is .......... Does the above combination of codes lead anyone to a particular problem, or at least where to start.

Truck has an erratic idel and seems to be using a lot of gas.

Thanks

It is EEC-IV

As for the test method.....I used to pull my codes as well, but I would just ground the single connector to count the flashes on the dash....I guess whatever works.

Here's a good link for those interested...
