Bad computer, blown fuse or fusible link, blown bulb or the truck is an '87 which doesn't have a check engine light.

Truck is a 89, 4.9. How can I test to see if the computer is bad? Truck runs great just having a idle issue at times. Down the road you could not ask for it to run any better. I will replace the computer if need be but would like to test it first.

You test the computer by checking codes. If it fails to go into diagnostic then the computer most likely is bad.

My 90 4.9 5spd 2wd is giving me a major headache again...She's on the second ECM since we got here way back in 92 and now she's running awful. Problem is i can't seem to get any diag output with either the cel(which is lit) or the little actron obd1 reader. I unplug the map sensor, iac , and the tps and there is no change while the engine is running...so i'm pretty sure it's the ecm again. My recent problems with an overvolting alternator probably had a hand in this I'm sure! Unfortunately, it was a cardone a cpu and a year past the warranty. Some one told me that it is usually a resistor that is blown in these that can be replaced quite easily...I'm going to pull it tomorrow and see but that just sounds too easy.

Basically my real question is this...does it affect the diagnostic output of the ecm if my clutch switch is bypassed?(too lazy to fix it right...lol) as I read in a manual something about that being part of the diag tests.

Secondly, Who else makes good quality remanned ECM's for our trucks and could i get a link or two if you happen to know.

You'll just get a clutch switch code.

Got it sorted today...ecm was shot. went to this guy...

Automodule Source Inc in Davie, Florida. 954 279-2040.spent many hours over the weekend talking to people who wanted ridiculous amounts of money for a rebuilt unit but this guy really took care of me. Gave me a loaner cpu to test then rebuilt mine for 125. Awesome! Changed the ignition control module while I was in it and she purrs like a kitten again. The posi still works..hehe! Nice long parallel lines in front of my house...lol. Took out the platinum plugs and went back to copper and she seems to run smoother.

Default Jumper setup to leave the pump on

I need to pump some gas out of a tank that has a weak pump. What is the jumper to leave the pump on?
