Default won't start right

I've been working fixing 'my' truck for a few months now and seeking help from anywhere and everywhere :-)

The engine spins and spins and IF I floor it and hold the pedal it will catch after a few moments.

What I've done seeking a solution

plugs
wires
cap
button
batter
alternator
cat + mufflers
bench tested the starter passed
replaced the key solenoid (it was time)

where should I check next or just take it to a shop?

Sounds like it's only getting limited amount of fuel perhaps? Fuel filter? How's the fuel lines? Do you literally have to have the gas pedal floored for a few seconds for it to catch?

POSTING YR./ ENGINE MIGHT PROVE HELPFUL!
Should be easy w/ some necessary information. Got spark? Fuel pressure PSI at the rail? Key on engine off (KOEO) error code scan results? http://www.handsontools.com/Equus-In...ol_p_5574.html $22.77. or the count the flash method noted at the top of the page. Take you TFI module (ICM/IDM) in & have it checked in the mean time. Autozone/Kregan's ect...

yes literally floored to get it to catch, but once running it idles fine. Did a test start and 4 seconds this time to start.

@ymeski I'll go through during next nap time for baby boy and i'll try to do the flash method.

I'm just ordering the obd1 tool you linked. got a 92 topaz too that i would love it for

While I wait for it. I just started it and no check engine light and when I put it in drive rpms drop to around 500 then gets to 700 if it doesn't stall out.

https://www.f150forum.com/f10/how-re...es-obdi-10907/ ALTHOUGH fuel pressure at the rail would be very helpful! Flooring & holding the pedal down, clears a flooded condition. This could imply a pooched Fuel pressure regulator, so you may expect to see 60-80 psi if this is the case. 40psi is normal.

ended up taking it a local mechanic as I didn't have the money to buy the fuel pressure tool too.

they just called and said it was a temp sensor. and charging for 3hrs of labor. lesson learned: buy the tool next time lol

Bad Temp sensors always show on Error Code Scans & Scans only take 5 mins. ECT, or more probably the ACT? Code reader $22.77 + Sensor(less than) $20 = OUCH!Thank for posting the resolution though! I'll push for running Error Codes more & maybe others will realize how important they can be. Wait till "JCMS" reads this! Following his post instructions (counting the flashes) would have had you out the door for less than $20! Oh well, like you said. Lesson learned! Have you noticed, the older we get, the cost of lessons seem to get more expensive. I remember as kids, touch the hot stove, burn a finger, lesson learned. Now when we get burned, it's w/ $20's, $50's & $100's!
