Hello all, first time post here, I usually prefer more to lurk and find my answers through search but I have found many different answers on this subject. I just picked up this truck for 500$ with 159k on it. It's a 91 F150 5speed with the 302 and 4x4. My poor oil pan gasket is leaking severely and I need to change it. From my searches I have found some people saying you must jack up the motor, or lift it with a picker. This isn't really an issue for me as I have a friend with a picker he is willing to let me use. However if it's not required I'd rather not have to go pick it up because he lives pretty far away. Others have said it's as simple as unbolting the pan and letting it hit the crossmember and just fishing the gasket around the oil pickup and crankshaft. So which is it? Obviously lifting the motor will make the process easier, but if it's also possible to just drop the pan and let it hit the xmember and work around it, I'd rather do that. Insight, pictures, tips, are all greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time! Joe

Thanks for your quick response Brenden, any snags you ran into? How did you fish your gasket through? I am thinking a small gauge wire.

I've seen guys do it like that. I did that the first tome but it leaked due to a bent pan. So I jacked up the motor with a pick and did it that way after fixing the pan.

With my hands..its basically a rubber gasket

Unbolt motor mounts and use floor jack under tranny to lift motor. And use the rubber one piece oil pan, gasket. They come with little adapter to hold it in place, while you slide pan on and get coiple bolts started..

Local shops are quoting me over five hundred bucks to change out mine, I think they are just wishing I'm an idiot.

Pull the pan out of there so you can clean and straighten the pan, it will be much easier to put back together. Have fun.

If you take the pan off you will have to take off the oil pump which I found to be a huge pain to get back on with the pan in your way.
