Help with Tachometer wiring on 89 150 please
#11
If it were mine, I would make the connection at the ignition coil instead of the distributor mounted control module.
Find the Dark Green/Yellow wire at the coil and work back 6-8 inches and make the connection there just in case you ever want to do away with the aftermarket tach, you will have enough wire to reconnect it back to normal.

+1 thanks for you

Well Crap.
I got all my gauges hooked up, Found the Green/Yellow. connected everything but the tachjumps bad sometimes.
idle its steady, 1500 rpm steady, 2000rpm it starts twitching, Anything after 2000 it jumps from 2k~4k.
Apparently glowshift offers a signal line filter i need.
Can anyone tell me the type of ignition systems the 89 I6 would have?

well,
The glow shift gauges are more digital than the old tachs. And when i hook my multimeter up to the green/yellow behind the cluster it acts fine.
Maybe i will run a wire into the cab temp and test out that brown wire under the hood.
That should be in there right?

I give up.
I have tested and retested and tried to find the wire i need under the hood.
I want to find a source closer to the coil pack to test. Becuase the green/yellow at the cluster is making the tach jump wildly. from 2k to 4k once you get over 1500 rpm/
Help?
