Converte 302 E.F.i to carb?
hi!
as the title say i am thinking of converte to carburator insted of EFI, how much work is it?and what do i need to do?
the thing is i want more HP and/or torque and im thinking of changing the intake manifold but the options seems to be few with EFI.
I think the look of the engine would be better to with carb and a nice edelbrock filter?
need more power!!!

I had serious thoughts about removing the EFI from my 87 5.0. It ran like hell and it ended up being a lot of little things, my O2 was dead, coil was arcing to the valve covers, exhaust leak, ERG sticky, weird MAP, all kinds of stuff. All in all I'm glad I kept the injection though, it's reliable if you maintenance regularly... Maybe you could get the aggressive power you want with a hot new cam?
Anyone have hot cam experience with the 5.0? I'd be interested in doing a cam swap myself actually. I know you can mod MAF trucks' for performance but have heard that the MAP system can't account for intake improvements...
As I understand it you'll have to go full manual to do a carb change. Old school distributor and ignition components, block mount fuel pump (not sure about modding the tank pumps or if they'll suffice...) I have no idea if the computer is necessary after that... Cluster and lighting on these trucks is independent of the computer best I can tell... May be able to tear it out too... Past that just plug the EGR and call it a day... Someone who knows more will probably find this post soon.
