Talking HELP! Class III vs Class IV Hitch?

I recently bought a used 1992 F150 Super Cab 4.9L I6.

I don't have anything that I'll need to tow regularly but I'd like to have the option. Currently there is not a hitch installed.

I contacted a local hitch company and they said they'd charge $260 to install a class III hitch. However, I'm wondering if I should get a Class IV instead. I understand that a class IV allows me to tow heavier stuff but honestly I dont know what typical types of things I might need a IV vs a III for. I'm just a newbie looking to learn from the experienced folks. Thanks in advance for your advice.

What are your thoughts / experience? Do you think I might need a class IV?

Without a towing package including a transmission cooler, a Class 3 is more than adequate.

Thanks for the link! I just ordered. They are having a 20% off sale through 3/31 so I was able to get the class III hitch and a tow ball mount kit for less than $130!

If you have a dril and bits then doing the install yourself would be a breeze and save you some money.

Thanks again for this link. This was by far the best deal. I finally got the hitch installed this weekend. Here's a photo of the final product. I was able to buy the recieved hitch and the ball assembly for less than $130.

Nice. They make a plug and play wiring harness if you tow a trailer with lights. Mine was $15 on my 1991. I can't remember where i ordered it from but it was from a trailer hitch web site
