Default Help with 4x4/Transmission

I just acquired a 94 model F150 XLT which was stuck in 4 lo. I managed to fix the fact it wouldn't shift through the 4WD at the shifter but when I get it into 4 Hi it is OK until you try to go up through the gears. It seems to just disconnect from the transmission itself (doesn't make a noise like its fallen out of gear, just revs and doesn't bite). I can go through the gears in 4 lo so I don't understand what the problem is. Is it a transfer case issue or a transmission issue... Any ideas/information would be much appreciated.

Gary
