Help

Ok, so here I am again looking for help.
We HAD gotten my husbands truck running, but are back to the same (or similar issue) we had before.
This morning my husband started the truck and left for work. On his way it was running rough and would start to stall when stopped. He had to keep giving it gas to avoid that.
When he got to his destination he parked where he did because it died...and now it won't start...HELP!!
We JUST did a 3-Step Cleaning Treatment to the engine (bought at Autozone $29.99), and it ran like a champ after....for a week, and now this...
Also, we JUST did: the alternator, distributor cap, plugs, wires, EGR valve, and replaced the battery....so I feel like we are :censored: right now, and we have no where else to turn.

was one of those steps some sort of cleaner for the fuel tank?
have you replaced a fuel filter recently? to me it sounds like some gunk in the filter / lines proximal to the filter. Just my .02

The third step was to clean the fuel, and it was poured directly into the tank. I replaced the fuel filter last year, but not since we used the cleaning kit.
This is directly from my husband:
Sputtering unless giving it gas. When i tried to restart it tried to turn over then just died like dead battery but no reason for bat to be dead...
And now it won't start. I was told it might be the fuel pump, but I don't want to drop a ton of money into the truck to NOT have it work....we're not rich. :help:

Have you tested the fuel pressure yet?

I wouldn't even know how to test/check that...I wish I did though....

there is a schrader valve on the fuel line next to the frame rail. You can borrow a fuel pressure gauge at an autozone or equivalent. i believe you want 50-60 psi at the rail with the key on engine off, 45-60 with the engine running.

The truck won't even start at this point. If we tow it to the house and borrow the pressure gauge, will we still get an accurate reading without being able to start the truck??

Start from the begining here, as always. Does it crank? Is there power at the battery? So you have good spark? Do you head the fuel pump? Are you getting fuel pressure?

You say you replaced the alternator.
Test it, you may have gotten a bad one.
Rebuilds these days are garbage half the time.

Does sound like your fuel pump could be shorting out as well.
Time to get out the multimeter.

not with a dead battery. You can depress the valve with a key or pen and see if it blows off any pressure (cycle the key once or twice to build pressure, then turn key off and test valve) with out a gauge. check the alternator.
