Default Headlight Swap - Want Super Brights - Advice Needed

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for having me. Just signed up. Also just bought my 2nd Ford truck (1995 F150 XLT)!

I wanted to get some advice on headlights/lighting. I live in Northwestern Montana, so when my truck isn't up in the mountains/woods, it's going to be on dark deer-filled roads. I want really bright white headlights with a really far viewing range, but I'm not quite sure what to do.

I plan to change the entire light out since the original covers are yellowed and I know whatever bulb I would put in wouldn't really matter much. But beyond that, I'm not really sure what a good option would be.

I don't want to do any of that euro angel eye stuff, and I want a white light, like a bright led.

Anyone have any suggestions on lights/lights plus bulbs that would be a good option...?

Thanks in advance for any help, and thanks for having me here. Looking forward to interacting more!

Go with HIDs for sure, you can retrofit some projectors into stock housing (projectors are a must with HIDs because they are a different kind of light than the halogen bulbs), get a high powered AC Ballast and stick around 5000k-6000k for color of bulb.

I've had my HIDs on for over a year and the only time I've turned my brights on was when I first swapped the headlight just to ensure that they worked. I don't do a ton of night driving but when I do I can see WAY more with the HIDs than I have ever been able to see with high beams on any halogen light.

If you don't want to retrofit projectors you can stick with halogen (sylverstar ultra are suppose to be the brightest available) and just redo the power supply for the headlights. Here is a write up I did a while back on the process, supposedly this gets more power to the headlights creating a whiter beam and also prevents dimming due to overload of the trucks internal wiring setup.

Thanks, fltdriver!!! I'm starting to think I just want to add some sort of driving lights, like on a mount bar or something, instead of messing with the headlights.

You could add a Led Light Bar or some Led Pods. I have both on mine

Thanks, Southernblues. I love that look of the lights by the grill. Have to say, I'm not typically a fan of the bar look (prefer old rounds), but yours looks super sharp. Now I just need to find a bar that fits a 95. Seems like everything is made for newer models. I might just have to make one or get a friend to fab one up for me. Thanks for posting that pic though. I know a bar like that would be so much easier to just mount on, but I wasn't sure on the look, but like i said, yours is super sharp and makes me think I'd be definitely down to throw that on my truck

Just keep in mind.........Aftermarket HID's are ILLEGAL in all 50 states! Most police do not enforce the law, but it is still illegal!

HID lights are ILLEGAL for a good reason---they blind oncoming drivers---hitting a deer may total your truck, but head-on crashes are rarely survivable!

I wasn't going to add more, but..............YES! HID's DO BLIND ONCOMING DRIVERS! When I round a corner at 2am trying to get a patient to the hospital on a dark country road and I'm blinded by HID's in factory halogen housings and nearly run off of the road with someone's parent or child in the back of the ambulance, you wouldn't like HID's either! They are DANGEROUS to other driver's. Please do not make this move if you are considering it. PLEASE! HID's in halogen housings scatter light. This is the reason that they are illegal in factory housings. Sorry to bitch, but facts are facts! Please be courteous, if not to other driver's, at least think about the First Responders on the road!
