Default HD-Half ton

Hi i have a 1992 F-150 with a 5.8 E4OD and BW1356. It is a super cab long bed with dual 19gal tanks. My leaf springs appear to be of 3/4 ton standards and the overload pack is the 5 leaf type but are still original to the truck. The rear end is from the factory and is a 8.8 limited slip with 3.55 gears. Now that most of the details are there i was wondering if anybody had knowledge of hd half tons from the era. If so do you think that mine fits the build of one. Also what would some of the specs be as far as towing and hauling with it.

On the cab rear pillar (driver's side) you'll find the decal with the specific GVW rating for your rig.
Check the VIN decoder topic listed in the F150 forums or use this link.

Sounds like someone put those springs on. Factory HD had the 10.25 axle installed with a 4.10 gear

What is the GVWR? This is shown on the drivers side door jamb sticker mentioned above. Mine is 5450, an exact half ton.

I understand that the factory HD series trucks had Dana 60 axles but not all had 4.10 gearing. Also my truck is an f-150 not a 250 or 350 which is why it has the ford 8.8 rear

if its over 7000 then you can figure out how much your truck weighs, from what you posted id guess around 5k lbs (my 2wd excab short bed 2wd weighed 4100 lbs)

my 97 250 has a GVWR of 8800 lbs and according to the scales weighs around 6100 with 2 full tanks of gas and 2 people in the cab.

Most of these era trucks have the GVWR from 5500 to 6500, so I'd think if yours shows above 7000 it is a heavier configuration.

It's a safe bet that the spring package you described in your 1st post is a factory option. The 8.8" Ford Track-Loc rear with 7/8" axles is a stout unit capable of handling a 1500lb - 2000 lb payload.
