Default Add 4WD to my truck

Hey there, I'd like to start looking for a 4X4 donor truck that I can take the parts out of to make my truck a 4WD. Can anyone out there tell me roughly what years are interchangeable with mine? I'd really love to keep my 300 for the fuel economy if possible. And what about the front end? Will I have to change it all or will I just be able to swap the spindle and stuff? In other words, how hard do you think this will be?

I've got a 1989 F-150 w/300 5 speed

Thanks!

Search it. Quite a few threads on here where people did the conversion. I was going to do it but it will be cheaper and easier to buy a 4WD truck, instead of converting it.

Hey thanks |SkidRow| & superhemicobraboss. I wondered if it might just be better/easier to just get another truck w/4Wd in it. superhemicobraboss, I'll see if I can find that "find a roller site" you're talking about. Might work out well.

Thanks again to both

Look for something with a blown motor or beat up body since you can probably swap over the body panels

Personally I am looking for a 5.8L 4x4 to make my offroad rig. I'll keep my 4.9L in good condition and can beat on the 4x4

If I had the time and money to convert and not have to worry about taking my DD out of commission, I'd make the swap, but can't afford to have her off the road for too long.

Check this Thread where GIJoe4500 converted his truck from 4x2 to 4x4

So change the tranny one weekend, swap in the axle the next weekend. I could do it to my driver and still work M-F.

Get a front end, and you can pre rebuild it before the swap. If you get a whole parts truck you can throw the 2wd junk under it and sell it off as a project truck.
