Default GT40 questions

I have a 1993 f150 4x4 with the 5.0. i was tossing around the idea of starting to aquire GT40 parts for my truck. mainly just heads and the intake from the explorer. i know with just the intake that there are mixed opinions on the benefits of doing the swap. i want to know what kind of difference or power gain i would notice going to gt40 heads, if they would even fit, and the gt40 intake. this is a long term project, but the truck is my daily driver right now. in the works is also the MAF conversion. im not too worried about losing MPG, because if it gets to bad, i'll just get a little ranger for my daily driver.

i know this is going to be full of possibly conflicting opinions....just not looking to start a fight hahaha

GT40 Heads untouched about 25hp...yes they fit, but if you get them from an explorer they will be gt40p's and the spark plug could interfere with exhaust manifolds. Intake may or may not make a difference. The truck intake actually flows pretty good. Just do some basic gasket matching on the intake. Of course to improve the breathing all the way around....you have open up theexhaust with some headers and free flowing exhaust.

i have personally never heard anything bad about gt40 heads. from what i have been told they actually give you a solid amount of power, ALONG with increased fuel mileage. and like 73fomo said, the gt40p heads could be a bit of a pain because of the way the spark plugs come out.

i plan on getting a set myself as soon as i have the money...gonna get a decent set of roller rockers to go with em, and possibly a port and polish.

i've seen some bare gt40p heads online for 200 bucks, but headers i've found for the heads are pretty cheap too. i'd for sure switch em all out at once, even if it was just to check all the gaskets.

I was wondering if anyone knew the difference between gt40 and gt40p heads? gt40 are F3ZE for the casting and not F7ZE. my main concern is if they'll both bolt to a 93 5.0L or if i need to make sure i get the right ones, weather the gt40p or not. thanks guys!

they'll all bolt on to the 5.0 block. they're made for 5.0's. it's just matching everything up to what you want out of the setup. whether it's more power or more mpg's.

I dont think the 93 svt cobra was that much higher in power for a mild HCI over the stock GT .

i'm thinking more along the lines of power. i plan on doing a MAF upgrade this year as well, i heard that helps a bit with the MPG's.

the 93 cobra had "235" horse power and the gt had 215. but ford has always derated its hot motors for insurance reasons. MMFF best guess was it made close to 275 hp

MAF will help with tuning...but not much with mpg's. If you can pick up either the gt40's or p's for a decent price you will definitely see a little bump, but I would add a good free flowing exhaust and maybe some 1.72 roller rockers to help them breathe.

Both will bolt to the 5.0's, the only fitment difference being the angle of the spark plugs and header fitment on the p's.

With custom tuning...and the motor in my sig I get from 15 -18.5 all day long. I think I could squeeze 19 to possibly 20 on all highway miles.
