Going MSD

I got an MSD ignition coil the other day that I still need to install, waiting till payday (tomorrow) to buy the plug wires- going with 8.5mm wires.

Since I'm upgrading to a higher quality coil and wires, it's suggested to change everything over to brass, so what else is there to change over?
THANKS

Personally, Stock Motorcraft Nic plated copper core plugs, especially if your going to bump base timing. What's the Ohm rate on the coil? .35-.45 Ohm I hope!

It says 0.440 ohms= primary resistance

good call...I got the MSD Street Fighter coil and running stock wires...I am going to opt for the MSD wires when I get time...

To the OP, you forgot about getting a brass contact cap and rotor.... Like this:

I prefer these though:

With one of these (and this is a MUST! It's a performance TFI module by Performance Distributor/Davis Unified Ignition)

But, to each their own....

This is what I got so far: MSD 5527 street wires coil

I haven't picked out which wires yet; (MSD 8.0mm or Taylor 8.5mm) nor have I considered the brass contact cap and rotor. Hmm is this bad?

Will be installing it all in a week or two after I have everything.

Is what bad? If you mean not replacing the cap and rotor, erm.. ahem.. well... kinda?!? Why put a high voltage coil with low resistance wires on, only be hampered by the cap and rotor?

Don't get me wrong, MSD makes quality stuff, I just prefer Mallory and the D.U.I Dyna Module, for me, is a MUST!

REMEMBER: it's the synergy of all the parts that make a difference, not any one individual part.

the stock terminals cant handle high voltage very long...it makes them wear faster the higher the spark out put is...on a stock cap and rotor with high output coil you'll get about a year and then its trash...brass last much longer...

And possibly even more important, depending on the circumstances at the time,"Never run w/ scissors!"

 Not bad Hack! That's darn near quotable! I still can't believe after "20 yrs. of schoolin, they put ya on the day shift!"

I'm jumpin on the bandwagon re: attempting to use a stock cap & rotor! The new coil will make short work of it!

Also physically examine a set of MSD 8.5 mm Superconductor wires before you buy any other wires. They have the best specs out of the box & last a looong time! If you don't think they're worth it after seeing them, then there's a lot of other brands or models that are almost as good, although personally, I don't think they'll last as long. I'm negotiable on just about everything but my plug wires.

Thanks Ymeski!

oh and.....

Apparently you've never feasted your eyes on a set of Taylor ThunderVolt 8.2's.... if you compare them, they are identical to your MSD wires, save but .3" of insulation which would account for.... o.k. you got me, I can't think of anything, I'd say they're basically identical....
