Default GM vs Ford let's discuss!

Hey guys let's have fun with this post!

Names Jason and I'll make this as short as I possibly can!

About 10 years ago I had a 94 4x4 ext cab f150 which I adored... times got tough and I had to sell her and since then I haven had 5 chevy trucks. Mostly because of price and availability is the reason I've had...

89 k1500 lwb 305
86 GMC high sierra rust bucket
2 2001 blazers
a 94 blazer full size current DD

While these trucks have served their purpose without leaving me stranded, I feel like the ford was more robust and needed WAY less maintenance...

So anyway, let's talk about ford vs chevy trucks of the same vintage and maybe convince me to sell my blazers and look for a FORD and have some fun while we're at it!

by the way 1st post ! Great forum!

ford has better brakes than chevys do. and fords transmissions to to outlast GMs. not to mention always has been more durable and reliable

True story about the brakes!

It seems that older fords are getting harder to find and more expensive... I really like my fs blazer and it is a fun truck but if I would have bought a bronco in the same condition I think I would have played twice what I did for the bowtie

it is harder to find older fords than chevys because fords had much harder lives than chevys. most fords had the crap beat out of them and then were not worth repairing. chevys on the the other hand were treated better because they wernt as durable or up to the task that the fords were. back in the day fords were by far the best trucks, but now of days chevy and dodge are starting to prove themselves worthy

My dad used to say, "The only way to get that old ford sound is from an old ford". I feel like my chevys are so generic.

I'm asked several times a year, 'is your truck for sale'? 'No its not'. Where I live, 99% of the 20+ year old trucks I see are Ford and I don't see any with 'for sale' signs in their windows.

Let's beat this dead horse some more.

Government Motors products are crap...nothing more. I have owned 8 GM vehicles in my life and all but one has been a rolling turd.

1991 Corsica (CPO) - trans axel crapped at 42K miles
1991 GMC S15 Jimmy (CPO) - pass front dropped while driving, found that frame weld broke holding upper control arm
1981 C10 - Motor imploded at 102K, rebuilt, tranny imploded at 103K
1991 Pontiac Firebird - most dependable GM, had to sell due to orders to Alaska
2002 Astro (CPO) - side door would never shut correctly, AWD system crapped out at 37K miles, trans axel gone at 42K
2007 Silverado (CPO) - 5.3 motor crapped at 42K miles (replaced with below under warranty)
2007 Sierra (New) - 2" water in passenger floor at 37K, leaked every time it rained (joint between cab/c-clip at fault), electrical problems at 42K miles
2008 Pontiac G6 (Sons car) - oil leaks consistently, never found where, drove to store and came out with all oil drained out of motor on ground, traded.

I will never buy another GM product again...PERIOD. I will take my chances with a Smart car or a Yugo over a GM anymore.

My dad had a 1999 s10, we worked on that thing almost every weekend for 5 years until he finally gave up on it, he had an 1984 ford before that for probably 7 years and only ever did maintenance and a valve cover gasket. My one friend has always had chevs and his current truck is on motor #3, tranny #4 and box #2. Every Chevy I have ever worked on is a rustbucket piece of crap, but hey chevs keep my tools from getting rusty.... my first truck was an 1989 chevy s10, absolute junk! I never could make it run right, not to mention it had almost no floor, my next one is my current one which is a 1991 f150, I've only ever repaired what was damaged from the previous owner and from sitting.

After more searching, it seems that there are plentiful 97+ ford trucks out there and in my quest to decide to buy ford or chevy, I have to ask how these stack up against the same gen of bowties?
