gas tank wont take in any gas.
Hey guys...I have a 1989 f-150 5.0 5 speed.
I can not get the tank to take in any gas. when I try It at the gas station the pump will shut off in seconds.
I tried the gas can same thing happens. about half of cup is all it can take before it starts to overflow back out.
Ive checked for leaks and don't see any! the rubber hose that comes off the filler neck with bend and move it doesn't feel like anything is inside.
any ideas what is causing this? anything I can look for?
Thanks!

Both of my tanks do this, sometimes... It gets to the point where I spend 20 minutes at the pump to get 3/4 of a tank. Anyone else have ideas? I've just assumed I tried to fill it too fast.

Guys,
I just had this problem with my Focus. ( my run around vehicle)
Found out the problem was spider webs in the pressure release (vent) hose. As the tank fills the pressure is released until the tube is covered with fuel and it increases the pressure to shut off the pump. The webs block the vent and the pump thinks the tank is full.
The dealer had to repair mine twice to get out all of the webbing. First time they blew a bunch out with air. Did not get all of it and had to remove the hose and replace.
Hope this helps

First my front tank did this about 3 years ago. Didn't let any gas go in at all.
3 years later the rear tank is all blocked too. This is crazy.
Locked out of both tanks and ran out of gas.
Broke down in a parking lot too! hahahaha

was able to get close to 3 gallons to go into the front tank, let it sit over night and it all pushed out the rear tank somehow.
still trying to get the rear tank black hose off the metal neck tube to see if its plugged.

do you know how far down in the bigger hose the small one is supposed to go? or how to attach it back to the filler neck? the smaller inner gas hose was not attached to the metal fitting nipple inside the neck tube Or does it just sit in there all sloppy? It just doesn't look right to me as its sitting. if it stays sloppy the fuel would get inside the vent hose right?
thanks!

Does it fill and then the pump "clicks"? Mine does that. It's because the pump pours out gas too fast. If there's two settings on the pump handle where you latch it to let it pump without you holding it, put it on the lower setting. Or you pull the filler out a little bit, not a lot, to where the angle of gas being sprayed is better. What happens to mine is the gas pours too fast at the wrong angle and it shuts it off. But with these techniques I have no problems.
